Saida Municipality Delegation Meets Council for Development and Reconstruction to Discuss Amending Part of the South Highway Master Plan

A delegation from Saida Municipality, headed by Mayor Eng. Mustafa Hijazi and including Municipal Council Members Eng. Mohammad Dandashli and Eng. Baraa Hariri, as well as Head of the Engineering Department Eng. Ziad Hakwati, visited the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), where a meeting was held to discuss the proposed cancellation and amendment of a section of the South Highway master plan – specifically the Jiyyeh–Zahrani section, and in particular the Rmeileh–Qibba connecting road branching off the South Highway.The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Mr. Mohammad Kabbani, members of the Board of Directors, and the Council’s engineers.Discussions focused on reviewing the proposed plan and its implications for urban development, traffic flow, and the needs of Saida city and the surrounding area. Participants engaged in an extensive exchange on the importance of reaching optimal planning solutions that take into account the public interest, development requirements, safety considerations, and urban planning standards.The municipal delegation emphasized the necessity of incorporating the city’s observations and needs into the planning process, in order to ensure a balanced and sustainable approach to the project, while safeguarding residents’ rights and accommodating future expansion and development requirements.It was agreed to continue technical discussions, with Saida Municipality tasked with conducting a detailed study of the plan and submitting its observations and proposals. These will be presented at a subsequent meeting to be held after the completion of the necessary technical studies, with the aim of reaching a final formulation that meets the needs of the city and the wider region.
