Sidon Municipality

Under the patronage of the Sidon Municipality, Naba Association distributed a complete set of fishing equipment to Sidon’s fishermen. With the presence of Sidon’s mayor, engineer Mustafa Hijazi, Naba Association, in collaboration with Action for Development Without Borders, organized an official ceremony at Sidon Municipality to hand over the fishing kits as part of a project aimed at improving livelihoods and food security. The event was attended by representatives from Johannite International Assistance and Arche Nova, local authorities, the Fishermen’s Syndicate, and several beneficiaries, emphasizing transparency in support and the importance of fishermen and local and international partnerships. Dr. Qassem Al-Saad, chairman of Naba Association’s board, said the project aligns with the association’s vision to support sustainable livelihoods, helps improve productivity, reduces work costs, and strengthens the economic stability of beneficiary families. He explained that it was implemented in cooperation with partners and in coordination with Sidon Municipality, targeting the support of 121 fishing boats benefiting around 160 sailors. A representative from Johannite International Assistance noted that work with Sidon’s fishermen started about two years ago to understand challenges and develop practical, sustainable interventions, while an Arche Nova representative emphasized the importance of supporting the fishing sector in Sidon and Tripoli for its Impa Positive for coastal communities. Saida's mayor, Mr. Mustafa Hijazi, stressed the municipality's commitment to supporting fishermen for their vital role in the local economy, while the secretary of the Fishermen's Union, Mohamed Al-Samra, expressed his thanks to Nabaa Association and its partners. The project stands out for focusing on empowering women economically by training them in making and repairing fishing nets, as part of initiatives aimed at boosting resilience and sustainability.t.
