Sidon Municipality Condemns the Storming of Its Premises, the Threats Against Municipal Council Members, and the Attempted Assault on Municipal Police Officers

The Sidon Municipality issued the following statement:

The Sidon Municipality strongly condemns the incident that took place yesterday, during which individuals unlawfully entered the municipal building, threatened members of the Municipal Council, and attempted to assault officers of the Municipal Police. This act constitutes a direct attack on the Municipality as a public institution and cannot be overlooked or dismissed as a spontaneous act, given its negative implications for the public interest and the reputation of the city and its residents.

The Municipality reaffirms that its doors have always been, and will remain, open to all residents of the city within the framework of the law and mutual respect. At the same time, it will not, under any circumstances, tolerate the recurrence of such actions that undermine the authority and dignity of the public institution, particularly its Municipal Police officers and employees, who faithfully carry out their duties in maintaining public order, enforcing the law within municipal premises, and supporting the Municipal Council members entrusted with serving the public interest.

Accordingly, the Sidon Municipality will file an official complaint and initiate legal proceedings before the Public Prosecutor against all those found to have participated in, incited, or been involved in this attack. The Municipality will not hesitate to take all necessary legal measures against any future violations of the law.

The Municipality also reiterates its commitment to continuing its campaign to regulate the city, including addressing violations, encroachments on public property, generator pricing regulations, and other matters. It will enforce the law fairly and consistently, without discrimination or double standards.

Finally, the Municipality calls on everyone to act responsibly, exercise self-restraint, and resort to legal and institutional channels in addressing any dispute or grievance.
