Launch of the first phase of the Food Safety Campaign in Old Sidon
Sidon Municipality – Media Office

The Health Committee of Sidon Municipality, chaired by Dr. Taysir Al-Zaatari, launched its first field round of the Food Safety Campaign in Old Sidon, coinciding with Ramadan activities and the active tourism movement the city witnesses annually during this holy month. The campaign comes under the title “Food Safety is Our Shared Responsibility” as an implementation step of the ninth objective of the committee’s general plan, which focuses on maintaining food safety, health monitoring, and commitment to the committee’s annual work program. It will include all neighborhoods of the city through continuous periodic field visits. The campaign aims to raise the city’s standards in the food sector and, consequently, the tourism and economic sectors, by improving the quality of food and health services provided to customers and consumers, and by enhancing awareness among food establishment owners and workers regarding food safety and public health standards. The first round covered Old Sidon neighborhoods, where the participating team—composed of members of the Municipal Health Committee and a number of volunteers specialized in food safety and public health—distributed informational leaflets. These included the legal procedures required for food establishments regarding licensing, pricing, monitoring, and inspection, along with a detailed guide on basic food safety standards according to official regulations in Lebanon, as well as general guidelines on safe gas usage. These field visits will continue in all neighborhoods in the coming days, followed by monitoring and inspection campaigns, with corrective deadlines of 14 days granted to all concerned establishments, starting from the day after receiving the guidance materials.Special thanks to the youth of Old Sidon who accompanied the teams during their tour, and to the Sidon Municipal Police forces.
