The Crisis and Disaster Management Committee at Saida Municipality announces the latest updates regarding relief efforts in the city, reflecting increasing pressures that require immediate intervention:
First:
The number of displaced people registered in the 24 shelters within Saida has reached the threshold of 12,000. Accordingly, the committee renews its announcement that the city has reached its maximum capacity, and the mentioned centers are over their limits and can no longer accommodate any new arrivals, either in terms of sleeping spaces or the ability to provide the minimum living necessities (food, medicine, water, and hygiene).
Second:
The committee emphasizes that it is working according to a clear priority plan to ensure aid reaches those in need. Consequently, priority is given to the centers, as the municipality is currently intensively distributing supplies within the official shelters to cover the needs of the 12,000 displaced people. As for the displaced outside the centers, once the direct needs of the shelters are met, essential displacement supplies will be distributed to the displaced brothers residing in 'unfurnished apartments' within the city, who are suffering from a severe shortage of basic living and lodging necessities.Thirdly:
The Sidon Municipality repeats its urgent appeal to the Lebanese government and international organizations to provide 'exceptional and immediate' support that matches this significant increase in numbers, in order to avoid a humanitarian or health disaster.
It also reiterates its call to direct the new displaced people to other areas outside Sidon, as the city no longer has any logistical capacity to accommodate more families.
Finally, the Crisis Management Committee in the Sidon Municipality emphasizes its commitment to standing by all displaced people and calls on everyone to cooperate to get through this difficult phase with minimal humanitarian suffering.
