As part of rallying international support to address the ongoing displacement crisis, the Mayor of Sidon, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, held a coordination meeting in his office at the municipal palace with representatives from UNICEF and UNHCR. The meeting was attended by municipal council members Iman Battach, Youssef Taameh, Hisham Hashisho, Mustafa Al-Bazri, Ahmed Choueib, former Mayor of Sidon Dr. Hazem Badi, and the Director of the Disaster and Crisis Risk Management Office in the municipality, Ms. Wafaa Choueib.

The discussion focused on the pressing humanitarian situation in Sidon, where the municipality presented data on the needs of the 24 approved shelters in the city, in addition to the numbers of displaced people outside these shelters, highlighting severe shortages in certain vital sectors. The meeting also concentrated on relief priorities and basic needs that fall under the mandate of the two organizations, particularly providing drinking water, sanitation services, and hygiene kits, along with support for children and women in the shelters. The participants also discussed logistical ways to enable the organizations to contribute quickly and effectively.Filling the existing gaps, in a way that ensures the continuity of essential services within the centers.  

Engineer Hijazi emphasized during the meeting that "Sidon Municipality is putting all its capabilities at the service of our displaced people, but the scale of the crisis requires direct and strong intervention from international organizations like UNICEF, especially as the city has reached its maximum capacity." He noted that "coordination with international organizations is the cornerstone of the emergency plan the municipality follows to ensure the dignity and safety of the guests."  

For their part, representatives from UNICEF and the Refugee Commission expressed their deep understanding of the scale of the challenges in Sidon, confirming the organization's commitment to cooperate with the municipality and the Disaster Management Room to provide the required support according to the priorities that were observed on the ground.
