Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Municipal Council Members Visit Governor Daou to Discuss Urgent Files and Alleviating the Burden of Displacement

The Mayor of Sidon, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, Deputy Mayor Dr. Ahmad Akra, and municipal council members Mohammad Dandashli, Mustafa Al-Bazri, Wael Qassab, Youssef Touma, Majed Abdel Jawad, Hassan Al-Zaatari, and Ahmad Choueib visited the Governor of South Lebanon, Mr. Mansour Daou, at his office in the Sidon Governmental Serail. The visit came as part of a series of meetings aimed at addressing the current challenges facing the city amid the exceptional circumstances Lebanon is experiencing.During the meeting, the field situation in the city of Sidon was reviewed, and several critical issues affecting both citizens and displaced persons were discussed, most notably:

  • Public cleanliness and waste collection, where ways to enhance garbage removal operations and maintain street cleanliness were discussed in order to ensure public health and environmental safety amid the current population density.

  • Aid distribution plan, where coordination between the governorate and the municipality was discussed to ensure the fair and organized delivery of humanitarian assistance to displaced persons, and to close logistical gaps affecting operations.

  • Mechanisms to support the Municipality of Sidon, in order to overcome administrative and financial obstacles imposed by the current crisis.At the conclusion of the meeting, Governor Mansour Daou reaffirmed his commitment to exerting maximum effort to support the city, stating:“Our teams and resources at the governorate will go beyond what is possible. We will work with all our capacity to make this crisis less burdensome for our displaced people. We stand side by side with Sidon Municipality to ensure the resilience of the city and to provide the minimum level of dignity and safety for all those who have taken refuge here.”For their part, the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council expressed their appreciation for Governor Daou’s efforts and continuous follow-up of Sidon’s situation, emphasizing that close cooperation between the governorate and the municipality is key to overcoming this difficult phase with the least possible damage.
