Sidon Municipality holds two coordination meetings for shelters with school principals and association representatives

The Mayor of Sidon, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, chaired two meetings to assess the sheltering experience in the city from the start of the displacement crisis until today. The meetings were attended by the municipal council members Muhammad Dandashli, Baraa Hariri, Majid Abduljawad, Youssef Taameh, Wael Qasab, Ahmed Shaib, and the Director of the Disaster and Crisis Risk Management Room, Wafaa Shaib. 

The first meeting was dedicated to meeting the directors of public and private schools that were opened as shelter centers for incoming residents. The directors provided a summary of their field experience, highlighting the heavy pressure on the educational facilities’ infrastructure. The discussion focused on the shortage of some logistical supplies and the challenges of balancing the maintenance of school facilities with ensuring decent living conditions for the displaced, especially after the first displacement experience, which left schools without any support for necessary rehabilitation after hosting. 

In a separate meeting, the mayor and municipal council members met with representatives of NGOs and civil society organizations managing and providing aid to these centers. The representatives outlined the field obstacles their teams face, particularly regarding securing sustainable funding for food, healthcare services, and general hygiene.
