The Disaster and Crisis Risk Management Room in Sidon Municipality announced an update to its data indicators regarding the influx of displaced persons into designated shelters within the city, covering the period from March 2 to 16, 2026.The Sidon Municipality indicates that the excess capacity indicator has risen again to 26.58%, reflecting the significant and increasing pressure on shelters and the city's infrastructure. This confirms that the capacity of Sidon's shelters has clearly exceeded its limits.This situation also reflects the absence of a clear government plan to relocate displaced persons to areas north of the city or other less congested areas. This threatens to exacerbate overcrowding in existing centers and weakens the ability to ensure a minimum level of humanitarian response in the coming period.The municipality also notes that the food security indicator, currently at 89%, remains vulnerable to a significant decline, as it is currently based on providing only one meal per day during the holy month of Ramadan. If the need arises to provide two or three meals a day, this will require the urgent provision of additional basic food supplies to the city; otherwise, the humanitarian situation could deteriorate further .The Municipality of Sidon confirms that its Crisis Management Room continues to monitor field indicators daily and is working in coordination with official bodies and humanitarian organizations to ensure the best possible response within available resources.
