Meeting of Sidon–Zahrani Municipalities Union Mayors with the Governor of South Lebanon to Discuss the Impact of Displacement and Strengthen Coordination

The mayors of the Sidon–Zahrani Municipalities Union held a coordination meeting with the Governor of South Lebanon, Mr. Mansour Daou, to discuss the repercussions of the recent wave of displacement and its impact on the cities and towns within the Union. The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to monitor field developments and enhance coordination among all concerned parties.During the meeting, participants reviewed the situation of shelter centers across the various municipalities, assessing their capacity and identifying their essential needs. They also discussed the challenges associated with providing basic services to both displaced persons and host communities.The attendees further addressed the technical, health, and social aspects of managing shelter centers, including issues related to hygiene and sanitation, primary healthcare services, and the provision of essential humanitarian assistance. Discussions also focused on the increasing burdens being borne by municipalities under the current circumstances.Participants emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous coordination and communication between the municipalities of the Union, the Governorate of South Lebanon, and all relevant stakeholders, in order to unify efforts, improve responsiveness to growing needs, and effectively address existing challenges.At the conclusion of the meeting, the mayors expressed their appreciation to Governor Mansour Daou, commending the significant efforts he personally undertakes, together with the Governorate’s Operations Room, in coordinating among various entities and working to contain the crisis and mitigate its consequences, thereby easing the burden on the host cities and towns.
