Hijazi receives Hamoud: Saida is under displacement pressure… and coordinated efforts are necessary to ensure an effective humanitarian response

The Mayor of Sidon, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, welcomed in his office at the municipal palace Dr. Bassam Hammoud, Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Group in Lebanon, in the presence of municipal council members Mohammad Al-Shammass, Mustafa Al-Bazri, Rami Bashasha, Majid Abdel Jawad, Director of the Disaster and Crisis Risk Management Operations Room Wafaa Shuayb, and Political Bureau member of the Islamic Group Mohammad Al-Zaatari. During the meeting, a comprehensive overview of the general situation in the city was presented, focusing on the escalating repercussions of the displacement crisis, the heavy pressure on service infrastructure and shelters, in addition to discussing ways to enhance relief response and coordinate efforts between various official and local bodies. After the meeting, Dr. Hammoud toured the Disaster and Crisis Risk Management Operations Room at the municipality, where he reviewed the fieldwork process, mechanisms for distributing food aid, meals, and logistical services in the 26 approved shelters, as well as the increasing challenges faced by the municipality as capacity levels reach critical points. They also discussed ways to support the municipality's efforts through social forces and organizations, especially in providing medical and food shortages.And the food and logistics, ensuring the minimum requirements for a decent life for the displaced. Dr. Hammoud praised the pivotal role played by the Sidon Municipality and its operations room, considering it 'the official umbrella for relief work in the city,' and said: 'We affirm our full support for the Sidon Municipality in this humanitarian and national mission. What the municipality and its team are doing, despite the lack of resources, is a great effort that deserves all support. Today, Sidon is one home, and we will work together to overcome obstacles, strengthen the resilience of our displaced people, and maintain the city's stability.'
