As part of strengthening coordination with various local authorities, Sidon Municipality held a meeting with the Follow-Up Committee stemming from the city's nonprofit organizations, attended by Sidon Mayor Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, Deputy Mayor Dr. Ahmad Akra, municipal council members Youssef Touma and Baraa Hariri, and the Director of the Disaster and Crisis Management Unit Wafaa Shuaib, along with representatives from Ahilna Association, Al-Mouwasat Association, Jami' Al-Bahr Association, Hariri Foundation, Dr. Nazih Al-Bazri Foundation, Maarouf Saad Foundation, and the Jbeil Agriculture Foundation. The latest developments regarding the general situation amid the ongoing displacement crisis were presented. The municipality briefed the committee on the latest numbers and data related to the approved shelters within the city, as well as the conditions of displaced people staying in homes and the amount of aid provided to both the shelters and host families. The main challenges facing relief efforts at this stage were also discussed. The meeting featured an interactive discussion on ways each organization could contribute, within its capabilities, to addressing the current problems, enhancing the effectiveness of the response, and ensuring the minimum standards of decent living for the displaced people. Special focus was placed on The problem of securing hot water in the shelters was discussed, and it was agreed to follow it up urgently to reach practical and sustainable solutions. Suggestions were also made to find additional sources to secure essential medicines, keeping up with the increasing needs. At the end of the meeting, the importance of keeping coordination channels open between the municipality and the associations was emphasized, with an agreement to hold regular meetings to follow up on developments and enhance integration in relief efforts.
