After a full month since the start of the displacement crisis caused by the ongoing Israeli aggression, Saida’s Mayor, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, held two extensive meetings at the municipal palace, including members of the municipal council, the operations room director, and the volunteer team, aiming to assess field performance and discuss the sustainability of relief work. The meetings included separate, in-depth sessions with the directors of the public schools currently used as shelters in the city, and with officials from the NGOs responsible for the direct management of these centers in coordination with the municipality.Engineer Hijazi reviewed with the attendees the report of the first month of the emergency response, focusing on evaluating management and reviewing the efficiency of accommodating displaced people and distributing tasks among school administrations, NGOs, and volunteers; the field situation and monitoring logistical challenges faced by the centers, especially regarding infrastructure, cleanliness, and provision of meals and medical needs; data archiving and ensuring the accuracy of daily statistics to guarantee fair distribution and transparency of information submitted to donor organizations. The meetings concluded with a joint vision for the next phase, focusing on Moving from 'emergency response' to 'sustainable management,' some of the key points include strengthening direct communication channels between center directors and the operations room to promptly overcome obstacles, developing psychological support programs and educational activities for children inside the centers to make up for lost learning, and tightening health and environmental oversight to avoid any crises caused by overcrowding.
Engineer Hijazi, at the end of the meetings, praised the 'high national spirit' of school and association directors, saying: 'After a month of resilience for Sidon and its people in hosting our displaced families, this evaluative moment was necessary. Sidon, through its schools and associations, has proven to be a united body. Today, we are not just managing a crisis; we are building a model of solidarity. The next phase requires endurance and more precise organization, and we are committed to providing all possible support to ensure the dignity of the displaced and protect our educational facilities.'
