Akra receives in-kind assistance from UNIFIL on behalf of Sidon Municipality
As part of efforts to strengthen relief operations and support displaced people in the city of Sidon, Sidon Municipality received a number of in-kind aid packages provided by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), following a generous initiative by the Head of the UNIFIL Mission and Force Commander, Major General Diodato Abagnara, with field coordination by Colonel Nicola Castelli of the Italian Army.
The aid handover took place at the Sidon Municipal Stadium, where the UN and Italian delegation was welcomed by Sidon Deputy Mayor Dr. Ahmad Akra, Director of the Disaster Risk and Crisis Management Unit Ms. Wafaa Shuaib, along with a number of municipal teams and volunteers.
This initiative comes as a continuation of UNIFIL’s humanitarian mission in supporting host communities, particularly amid the major burdens faced by the city of Sidon due to hosting large numbers of displaced people. The assistance includes essential materials that help cover the needs of shelters and ease the suffering of affected families.
