Emergency Response for Displaced Families Sleeping in the Streets: Sidon Municipality Distributes “Shower Vouchers” and Intensifies Efforts to Secure Alternative Shelters.

As part of its ongoing field response to the displacement crisis and in an effort to safeguard public health, the Disaster Risk and Crisis Management Unit of Sidon Municipality launched an emergency initiative supervised by municipal council members Majed Abdel Jawad and Wael Qassab. The initiative targeted displaced families temporarily residing in the city’s streets and public squares, for whom shelter has not yet been secured due to all 27 official shelters reaching their maximum capacity. The initiative included the distribution of “shower vouchers,” which Abdel Jawad described as an exceptional measure aimed at ensuring a minimum standard of personal hygiene and health protection for these families while logistical arrangements are being finalized to relocate them to suitable accommodation. During the field tour, Qassab stressed that the municipality, through its Disaster Risk and Crisis Management Unit, is working at an accelerated pace to find sustainable solutions for these cases. Efforts include establishing additional shelter centers within the city’s administrative boundaries, despite the limited options available, as well as coordinating with operations rooms in neighboring areas and outside Sidon to secure decent accommodation that preserves the dignity of displaced families and guarantees the minimum requirements for a dignified life.
