The distribution of in-kind assistance allocated to the residents of Sidon began on Saturday, 2 May, at the Sidon Municipal Stadium – President Rafic Hariri Sports City, as part of a comprehensive plan developed by Sidon Municipality to support citizens and strengthen their resilience amid the current circumstances.
The distribution process is being carried out in coordination with the South Lebanon Governorate and the Disaster and Crisis Management Operations Room, through a donation from the Humanitarian Cooperation Association, under the supervision of Municipal Council Member Eng. Mustafa Al-Bizri, with active field participation from the Municipality’s volunteer team, in cooperation with the Islamic Medical Association, Future Scouts, Dr. Nazih Al-Bizri Association, and Lebanese University student volunteers.
The launch of the operation was followed by Sidon Mayor Eng. Mustafa Hijazi, alongside Director of the Humanitarian Cooperation Association Dr. Fadi Shamieh, and Municipal Council members: Rami Bashasha, Majed Abdel Jawad, and Ahmad Shuaib.
Eng. Mustafa Al-Bizri revealed that the total number of applications submitted through the electronic platform reached 5,183 applications, noting that the first distribution phase included 700 in-kind aid packages. He added that the distribution process will continue over the coming days according to announced schedules, ensuring proper organization and avoiding overcrowding.
During his follow-up of the operation, Sidon Mayor Eng. Mustafa Hijazi stated:
"Sidon Municipality is carrying out its duty today toward its people, who have demonstrated resilience and solidarity in the most difficult circumstances. This initiative is the result of a true partnership between the municipality and the local community. We are committed to managing it with the highest levels of professionalism and transparency to ensure that support reaches every deserving Sidon family that has registered. We reaffirm our commitment to continuing to secure additional aid during the upcoming phases."
For his part, Dr. Fadi Shamieh said:
"What we are witnessing today at the municipal stadium is a true reflection of Sidon’s inclusive identity. The Humanitarian Cooperation Association, in coordination with the Higher Relief Council, the Disaster and Crisis Management Operations Room at the South Lebanon Governorate, and Sidon Municipality, is placing all its resources at the service of supporting our people. We will continue this initiative to provide 4,000 food baskets allocated for Sidon residents, while thanking and appreciating everyone cooperating with us, especially Sidon Municipality, its mayor, and members."
