Saida Mayor Eng. Mustafa Hijazi received MP for Saida Dr. Osama Saad in a meeting dedicated to following up on the latest developments regarding the displacement crisis in the city. The meeting was attended by members of the Municipal Council, the Director of the Operations Room, and the delegation accompanying MP Saad. Discussions focused on the situation of the 26 officially designated shelter centers in the city. Dr. Saad was briefed on the latest statistics and field indicators concerning the number of displaced persons and the level of coverage of their food, medical, and logistical needs. Participants also reviewed the growing pressure on the city's infrastructure and the essential services provided by the municipality amid the ongoing Israeli aggression. The participants devoted particular attention to the issue of displaced families currently residing in the city's streets and public squares. They examined immediate solutions and proposals to accommodate them, including establishing or equipping additional shelter centers within Saida to the extent possible, as well as coordinating with the relevant authorities to facilitate the transfer of those willing to relocate to adequately equipped shelters outside the city, thereby ensuring their dignity and safety. Following the meeting, Dr. Saad stressed the need for all national and local efforts to unite in support of Saida’s resilience during this critical period, emphasizing that the plight of displaced families living on the streets requires urgent humanitarian and social intervention that cannot be delayed. For his part, Eng. Hijazi thanked Dr. Osama Saad for his close follow-up and continued concern for the city and its residents. He affirmed that the municipality places the issue of “street-displaced families” at the top of its priorities and is working in cooperation with all stakeholders and organizations to secure appropriate alternatives for them as quickly as possible, while maintaining a balance between the city’s capacity and its humanitarian responsibilities.
