The Generator Sector Regulation Committee at Sidon Municipality issues a statement on the cost of electricity subscriptions for May 2026

The Generator Sector Regulation Committee at Sidon Municipality issued the following statement:

  • Private generator owners must adhere to the unified kilowatt-hour tariff issued by the Ministry of Energy for the month of May, which is 46,289 LBP per kilowatt-hour, provided that generator supply hours are not less than 12 hours per day. If generator supply exceeds 17 hours per day, the price becomes 56,000 LBP per kilowatt-hour of supplied electricity, based on an average exchange rate of 89,500 LBP per US dollar.

  • For subscribers with meters, the fixed subscription fee is set according to the following rates:

    • 385,000 LBP for a 5-amp subscription

    • 685,000 LBP for a 10-amp subscription

    • An additional 300,000 LBP will be added for every extra 5 amps.

  • Regarding elevators and common areas subscribed to three-phase (Triphase) power, generator owners must calculate the fixed portion of the tariff based on the capacity of a single phase (Monophase). For example, if an elevator and common areas are subscribed through a 3×15 amp three-phase breaker, the fixed fee must be calculated based on 15 amps, not 45 amps — meaning 985,000 LBP instead of 2,785,000 LBP.

  • It is mandatory to issue an invoice clearly showing: the generator owner’s name, address, and phone number; subscriber’s name; subscription capacity; previous meter reading; current meter reading; monthly consumption; kilowatt-hour price; monthly consumption value; fixed subscription fee according to the Ministry’s tariff; and the final total amount, without any additional charges such as spacing fees.

  • It is mandatory to issue and distribute a clear schedule showing electricity supply hours to all subscribers.

  • It is mandatory to install and approve meters for all subscribers.

  • If a generator owner decides to permanently shut down the generator and stop service, they must provide a three-month notice period before doing so. (A written notification must be submitted to the Sidon Municipality registry or the relevant municipality.)

  • Based on the agreement between the Generator Sector Regulation Committee and the South Lebanon Public Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecutor’s office will receive citizens’ complaints through the relevant police stations and take the necessary legal measures.

  • The committee will notify the South Lebanon Public Prosecutor’s Office of the contents of this statement.

The Ministry of Energy and Water draws the attention of private generator owners and citizens that the following additions to the official tariff issued by the Ministry are not permitted:

  1. Adding a Value Added Tax (VAT) unless legally justified through official registration with the VAT Directorate at the Ministry of Finance.

  2. Adding any extra fees or amounts under any pretext, such as generator maintenance costs, network costs, or others.

  3. Pricing electricity for consumers in foreign currency.

  4. Charging any additional fees to citizens.
