Sidon Municipality’s Environment Committee Organizes Cleanup Campaign on Zireh Island with Participation from Institutions and Volunteers

Within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and promote a culture of volunteerism and community partnership, the Environment Committee of the Municipality of Sidon organized a cleanup campaign this Saturday morning on Zireh Island in Sidon, under the slogan “The Environment Brings Us Together.”The campaign was held in cooperation with the Association for Human and Environmental Development (DPNA), the Sidon Civil Society Institutions Union, the Friends of Zireh and Sidon Coast Association, the Sidon Municipal Youth Council, the Lebanese Civil Defense, the Lebanese Red Cross, the Southern Region Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (South Coast Detachment), as well as several diving clubs. Hayat Donner Restaurant also generously provided lunch for the volunteers.Volunteers from the participating organizations collected waste and debris from various parts of the island, in addition to removing waste from the seabed and around the island through diving teams. Waste bins, provided by World Vision, were also distributed and placed at different locations on the island to help maintain cleanliness and ensure the protection of the marine environment.In a statement, the Head of the Environment Committee at the Municipality of Sidon, Mr. Youssef Taameh, emphasized that this initiative is part of the municipality’s vision to strengthen cooperation between official institutions, civil society organizations, and the local community, and to instill a culture of environmental responsibility. He praised the wide participation and strong spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by all contributors.He also extended his sincere thanks to all the parties that contributed to the success of the campaign, affirming that the municipality will continue to launch environmental initiatives aimed at protecting natural resources and preserving the city’s image, based on the belief that environmental protection is a shared responsibility requiring collective cooperation.
