The Municipality of Sidon manages the city’s central urban area, covering about 786 hectares and situated 5 meters above sea level. It is governed by a 21-member council, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and operates with administrative and financial independence under the oversight of Lebanon’s Ministry of Interior.
Sidon serves as a regional administrative center, hosting major institutions like the Governor of South Lebanon, regional branches of the Central Bank, Électricité du Liban, telecommunications, and the Justice Palace.
In May 2025, a new municipal branch was opened in Bab al-Saray Square (Old City) to provide services to residents and promote tourism through brochures, maps, and a dedicated tourism committee.
The municipality is also active in civic and environmental management, leading campaigns to remove street violations and managing support for refugees and displaced persons through food, hygiene aid, and emergency coordination efforts.
